Warrior Dash, and Cleansing Programs

Before I even kick-off today’s post I need to apologize for M.I.A. for a week! I’m sorry!! Last Sunday I flew to the West Coast to see my cousin graduate high school. We’re pretty close, and it was important for me to show my support in her enormous accomplishment.

Now I’m back in New York, enjoying the wonderful weather and getting back into workout mode. I managed to sneak a little fitness in while I was gone, but for the most part I was too busy running around. Fortunately I kept my diet tight, so my bod and energy stayed pretty much in tack. I only began to feel a little jiggly towards the last day of my trip.

Since I haven’t posted for a spell I have mad things to discuss!! Let’s get done to business. Currently I have two things on my mind: Cleanses and Warrior Dash!

Last year my boyfriend jumped on the fit blogging bandwagon. I guess he got tired of watching me spend our evenings posting. It was around the time he began creating his own blog posts that we learned about Warrior Dash.

Warrior Dash is part 5K, part obstacle course, which includes running through mud, fire, and climbing walls.

Intense, right? My boyfriend and I, along with some of our friends, will be participating in August. I have a little under 3 months to train. I’ve never competed in a regular 5K, let alone one with an obstacle course. I’m a bit nervous. Lucky for me, the Warrior Dash website has a guide to training. I workout for 1.5-2 hours 5-to-6 days a week, but I still consider myself a “virgin warrior”. According to the site, a virgin warrior is someone who is not trying to win the competition but simply finish it. Here are the training suggestions:

Strength Timeline:

Week 1-2: Pick your preferred three exercises and then perform each exercise for one minute, with a minute rest between exercises. Try to do as many reps as you can in that minute. *
Week 3-4: Exercise for two minutes with one minute rest between exercises. Do as many reps as you can in the two minutes.
Week 5-7: Exercise for two minutes with 30 seconds rest between exercises. Do as many reps as you can in the two minutes. Take two to three days off prior to Warrior Dash to ensure that your body is fully prepared for the Battleground.

Cardio Timeline:

Week 1-2: Run/walk for 30 minutes two times a week
Week 3-4: Run/walk for 30 minutes two times a week
Week 5-7: Run for 45 minutes three times week*

*Or do a cardio workout of your choice

My main concern is running 3 miles straight, which I have never done. Yesterday I worked on my endurance by running for a quarter mile, and then walking on a incline for another quarter mile. I did this for 2.5 miles. Later I took a 1.5 mile brisk walk. By the end of this month I need to be able to run a mile without stopping. Oih, the mind reels.

Besides Warrior Dash, I’ve been thinking about cleanses. A few months back one of my fav writers (Cat Marnell) wrote a post on XO Jane about using the Ritual Cleanse. Side note- Jane Pratt was in my dream last night. Weird.

The Ritual Cleanse is 100 percent organic, and is a detox program based around fruit, veggie juice, and nut juices. Marnell (who is already thin) lost crazy weight on the program, and gained a lot of energy. In this month’s issue of Elle, the cleanse received a wonderful review.

I don’t really need to lose weight, but I do need to detox. I’ve been breaking out in the type of rash that I only get when I’ve been eating too much sugar or processed foods. The thing is, I don’t know what sugar or processed foods I’ve been eating. Seriously, last week I ate veggie sushi, one frozen yogurt, lots of coconut milk yogurt, PB, honey, and rice pasta.

The rash began when I was at the airport going home. I ate a muffin top and some nut clusters. The nut clusters had only 6 grams of sugar per serving (5-6 pieces), and they had no preservatives. Maybe it was the muffin top? Either way, my skin has itchy red patches, so I need to flush out my insides. Too bad 1 day on the cleanse cost $80 bucks!

I’m foaming at the mouth to get my hands on this stuff, but if I can’t I may have to make my own cleanse. I have a vitamix, so I’m thinking I will do a 1 day cleanse made up of fresh fruit and veggie juice. Maybe I can just puree the produce? Has anyone tried such a thing? The majority of the drinks in the Ritual Cleanse are very low calorie, so besides giving the body a wallop of vitamins and essential nutrients your body is probably being forced to use some stored fat for fuel. I guess we discovered the secret of the weight loss?

So let me know if you’ve tried this cleanse or Warrior Dash. Inquiring minds want to know.
